What is a Bridge?
Well we all know a bridge is something that carriers you over a gap. It is the same thing in health care. If you have a deductible of $5000.00 you must pay prior to your health insurance kicking in, and you have a Health Incentive Account you have accumulated $2500.00 in the bridge is the difference or GAP in the coverage.
Most plans cover wellness, but if you go to use your coverage and your services are over the amount of the deductible you will pay the difference of what is in your HIA and your deductible if you are in a 100% plan.
Example:
HIA has $2500.00 in it.
Your deductible is $5000.00 on a 100% plan
You rack up $1,000,000 in services all you will pay for is the Bridge or the GAP, that will be your out of pocket exposure in most cases. $2500.00
Unused HIA monies roll over to the next year, year after year as long as you remain in the plan, but if you leave the plan you forfeit your HIA funds. |
